Did you know, Dementia is a SYMPTOM of 100+ neurological diseases? Alzheimer's is the largest and most recognized but just because someone has dementia DOES NOT MEAN THEY HAVE ALZHEIMERS. Did you know that there are 17 million caregivers and most go unpaid? U.S. & Worldwide Stats, 7.7 million new cases are diagnosed every year, with 47.5 million people living with dementia worldwide. Since 2011, every day 10,000 people turn 65. My mom was diagnosed with dementia at the age of 65, and it was the suggestions and stories of my friends that help me become less overwhelmed, while I figured out how to manage her life and our new reality, I was truly overwhelmed. In my journey with my momma, I realize my purpose and mission in life are to break the Dementia cycle, by educating on how Dementia affects Caregivers, the benefits of having a tough conversation about dementia with your loved ones and how preparing for “the what if” could relieve some burden that comes with Dementia. We all need to be having the tough conversation with our loved ones about this disease and what they would want to be done if something should happen, and you need someone to care for you before you die... don’t leave it to your children, parents, aunts/uncles, friends…to figure it out. IMPORTANT FACTS: Right now, 40 million Americans are doing truly selfless work by serving as unpaid family caregivers for a loved one. About 25 percent of those caregivers are millennials, who often feel forced to choose between their careers and caring for their aging parents and grandparents. Caregiving fuels generational poverty and has an even greater impact on millennials and women who take on that role. Think about all those facts......and then decide if it is too early to talk to your children or loved ones about what if you live and don't die?
